Sister Joyce Diltz, PHJC, D. Min.
The founding director of Bethany Retreat House, Sister Joyce has been a member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ since 1964 and has been doing spirituality ministry since 1975. She is a spiritual director who marvels at the wholeness of life and at God using all of creation and life experience to be in communion with us. In her work with individuals and with groups, she helps people discover God present in the dailiness of life, drawing from a variety of approaches to help people recognize and respond to God: scripture, Jungian dreamwork, fantasy, drawing, journaling, fairy tales, dance, clay, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and more. As bookstore manager at Bethany she enjoys providing the latest and best in spirituality resources and in helping individuals connect with the “right” book for them and for people on their gift lists.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University (1977), a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Direction from the Graduate Theological Foundation (1992), and a certificate in dream leader training from the Haden Institute (2009).
Previous ministry experiences include teaching junior and senior high school language arts and religion, vocation and formation ministry, and hospital chaplaincy. She has recently completed her third term on the leadership team of Michiana Spiritual Directors Network. Personally, she enjoys playing with color and texture in her avocation as a quilter.
